625 Dougherty View Court has a floor plan that will work for a blended family
Well it looks like the baby boomers are doing it again – adding a new wrinkle to housing needs. We are either moving our adult children into our households or… moving in with them to help defray the tolls our weakened economy has placed on many of us. The census reported that multi generational or blended households, those including at least one extra adult who is not enrolled in school and isn’t a spouse or partner, grew 10.7% to 21.8 million households in spring 2011, up from 19.7 million households four years earlier. Whew!
When the owners of 625 Dougherty View Court couldn’t find a home that fit the needs of their blended family in 1999, they redesigned their home by adding square footage with functionality the primary goal. They wanted open public spaces for family togetherness and private areas for the adults and teens alike. So the kitchen was opened up to the new breakfast room so that the large family could eat together. They also added another family room on the first floor with double french doors that open into the original family room. Walla – close the doors for privacy for small groups and open them when that Christmas party has family and friends mingling with each other.
The kitchen is set up for many helping hands whether giving direction from the breakfast bar or peeling the potatoes at the sink in the center island or rolling out the dough for the pumpkin pie at the counter space overlooking the breakfast room. It all works and with the 6 burner Dacor cooktop and double oven, big meals are not a problem.
It is a split bedroom floor plan with 4 spacious bedrooms on the second floor and 3 bedrooms, a family room, laundry room, full bath and Swimex Swim Luxury Home Spa in the lower level. As the children started leaving the nest, one of the bedrooms became a work-out room. This split bedroom floor plan lends itself well to multi generational and blended family housing.
