Paranormal Happenings have been confirmed on Zombie Road
Halloween in Stl has always been a very popular holiday for old and young alike. But did you know that the Al Foster Trail in west St. Louis County may be the place for a real ghost sighting. The Al Foster Trail is considered a great trail for hikers..
but a portion of the Al Foster Trail is the old Lawler Ford Road, commonly referred to as Zombie Road. Zombie Road is about 2 miles long through a valley of forest oak land hills and ends near the Meramec River.
This road’s history includes being used by native American Indians as a foot path and later as a path in the early 1800’s that led to a ferry to get across the Meramec. Local legend tells a variety of eerie tales on this stretch of road and of those who have met their peculiar demise and whose souls are still roaming the woods along Zombie Road.
In Troy Taylor’s book Out Past the Campfire Light he writes of Lawler Ford Road: “Many of the people whom I have talked with about the strange happenings here speak of unsettling feelings and the sensation of being watched. They also tell of eerie sounds, inexplicable noises, and even disembodied footsteps. Many have spoken of being ‘followed’ as they walk along the trail, as though someone is keeping pace with them just on the edge of the woods. Strangely, no one is ever seen. In addition, it is not uncommon for visitors to also report seeing shapes and shadows of presences in the woods. On many occasions, these shapes have been mistaken for actual people until the hiker goes to confront them and finds that there is no one there.”
In October of 2005, the Paranormal Task Force conducted an investigation of this road. During the investigation, several members of the investigative team observed shadow figures following them and one coming down the side of a small bluff and the appearance of a very pale male apparition. Their camera batteries which were all new prior to the investigation were all spent prior to use. One investigator had an unseen force try to kick her foot out from under her and one experienced a crushing sensation in her chest and a taste of blood in her mouth. Here is what Troy Taylor concludes in his book “…I have learned that there is more to this spooky place than first meets the eye and that it goes beyond mere legends linked to the old lovers’ lane. For those who doubt that ghosts can be found along Zombie Road, I encourage you to spend just one evening there, along the dark paths and under the looming trees.”
