6640 Marquette Avenue St Louis MO 63139
Offered at $200,000
6640 Marquette is the quintessential South STL bungalow. The brick gingerbread exterior is just a sampling of what you get on the inside. It’s the old-world craftsmanship that hits you right away. The plaster ceilings are coved. The front door has a stained glass window that opens to your visitors. The decorative brickwork on the fireplace and the lovely leaded and stained glass windows add to the charm.
The current owners have updated the kitchen and bath. They have also refinished the hardwood floors and the entire house is freshly painted. The upstairs bedroom and recreation room have new carpet. The full basement is walkout. The backyard has a patio and just enough yard. The home has 3 nearby parks – Tilles, Francis and Lindenwood.
Lindenwood Park Neighborhood
Lindenwood Park Neighborhood is a southwest neighborhood of St. Louis City south of Arsenal, north of Chippewa, east of I-44 and the city limits and west of Hampton. 6640 Marquette fits right in this neighborhood of well constructed and sturdy single family brick bungalows and 2 story homes. The homes are architecturally interesting showing off the craftsmanship of builders of the 1930’s to 1950’s. There are a few multi-families interspersed in the neighborhood.
The Lindenwood Park Neighborhood is an active community. It has it’s own facebook page, newsletter and website. The park itself has sports fields, an in-line hockey rink, playground and picnic areas. Events are scheduled throughout the year.
Even though it has a low walkscore.com of 49, it is a walkable neighborhood. The Riverfront Times named it the best restaurant neighborhood in 2010 with more than a dozen restaurants in the area – and it’s neighbor is The Hill for some of the best Italian food anywhere. Besides Lindenwood Park, it is also near Tilles Park and Francis Park.
I’m saving the best part about the neighborhood till last – people love to live here. They take great pride in their community and it is one neat and tiny place to drive through.
Schools in the area
Mason Elementary School is the St Louis Public School for the area. Total student population is 362 from PK-6. The map below shows other options. One of these options is a STL charter school, Gateway Science Academy with 340 students in grades K-8. I have been through a number of STL charter schools and have liked what I saw. I have not been through this one however. To look up information on other schools in the neighborhood go to www.greatschools.org. This link will take you to St Louis Charter Schools.
