Property Information
2435 Walton Road is an affordable home in Sycamore Hills Mo It is a brick bungalow built in 1926. It has 7 rooms. It was the first home for the current owner. Even though the home was updated and move-in when she bought it, she has made many improvements.
The current owner installed a Vivint Smart Home Security System. This system stays with the home. It includes a doorbell camera, two other cameras and a thermostat.
The living area is open. There are newer wood floors and newer insulated windows (installed by current owner). There are also 2 stained glass windows reflecting the original charm of the 1920’s.
The kitchen was updated in 2017. It has a ceramic tile floor and solid surface counters. It is small but packs a good punch for cooks with lots of counter space. It has a south facing window over the sink. The appliances are stainless including the vent over the stove. The kitchen is open to the living area so the cook isn’t isolated.
Off the kitchen is a covered deck overlooking a large level yard that is totally fenced. The storage shed is included in the sale.
The main floor bathroom was updated in 2017. It has newer fixtures and a very handsome shower surround.
There are two spacious bedrooms on the main floor. The home has only two steps to get inside. The bedrooms are on the main floor so even though it is not handicap accessible it is easy for people who may need a walker or have had hip or knee surgery.
The current owner had the lower level professionally finished shortly after she moved in. Prior to doing any of the finishing a sump pump was installed. The lower level has 3 rooms and a full bath. The bedroom has a door as egress for safety. In addition there is an office (currently used as a closet), a family room and a large laundry room.
Location
This home is located in the city of Sycamore Hills which is just northeast of Overland in the central corridor of St Louis. Sycamore Hills is a very small village. It has great access to major highway arteries.
There is a small park, “Charlies Park”, within 500 yards.
The area was first settled in the early 1820’s when travelers westward from St Louis would stop overnight at what became knows as “The Overland Park” wagon train stop. This historic spot is at the intersection of Midland Boulevard and Lackland Road.and Daniel Boone built a single room cabin near the Wyland Elementary and Lake Sherwood. A marker shows the exact spot.
As another point of interest Lake Sherwood which is near the original Overland Park, was developed as a private residence in 1877 and is now a gated community. The lake is spring-fed.[12] Construction of the earthen dam was completed in 1894. I have been told by residents that it was the site of the 1904 Olympic Diving competition. I can’t find verification of this but there are pictures on the internet.
2435 Walton is within five minutes of the entrance to 170 for easy access to Clayton, the downtown business district and the airport. Overland Plaza is at the corner of Page and Woodson with retail, restaurants and grocery store. Nearby bus lines are the 35 Rock Road (.4 miles) and the 33 Dorsett-Lackland (.4 miles).
